My purchase was a little bit of a reluctant one for me and a must from my wife’s perspective. I didn’t want it so that I wouldn’t depend on it but after 3 major breakdowns on my almost 30 year old Vision Recumbent it started to make more sense. So I ordered my swytch for that bike and after placing the order it finally broke down a 4th time braking parts of the frame making it nearly impossible to trust it out on any long rides with any distance from home.
So I then flew from Boston to Central New York to visit a dealer that had the 2 most popular 2 wheel recumbents to try them out. After settling on the Streetmachine GTE ordering it and waiting 6 weeks for it the kit had arrived for my old machine. The wheel had to be swapped but other than that the install went smooth. The mounting of the battery was the next problem. Being a machinist and mechanical designer it was easy to design and build a delrin (plastic) block to mount it under my main tube. A few weeks after I made the adapter I received a surprise package from Swytch and in it was a very nice aluminum cast part made for the very same purpose and almost identical design to mine. That is great service sending me out the part and at no cost to me.
It’s winter time in New England and too cold for me to ride but I can’t wait till the weather turns and I can try out my new kit just to get over that last hill home or to take me farther in my journey than I dared travel before.
I have a Tern BYB S11 folding bike (for easy carriage on trains and comfortable to ride) and have adapted the Swytch fitting by removing the handle bar attachment from the battery holder/control unit and fitting to a wooden board which attaches to the KlickFix front basket bracket so it can be easily detached for unpowered cycling. I have also added a toggle switch in the pedal cadence detector to more easily switch on the motor just for steep hills (I am a long distance cyclist). Delighted with result. We started on the first of our two Bromptons. The kit arrived on time, and all the parts were also there! Installation was a breeze with the documentation provided on the website. I was amazed by the power of the assistance provided by the kit. I quickly learned that for most trips, setting the assistance to le lowest level is more than enough. Otherwise, wifey, that didn't want the electric kit gets upset as I disappear over the horizon... Wifey has changed her mind, and we have ordered a second kit and are awaiting it. The weight is an important consideration. We fold our Bromptons and put them in our plane. It's far from being a business Jet. So, the low weight of the kit is a good surprise as the Brompton is not much heavier than without the kit.
The only thing that we think could be improved is the battery. Even the "big" battery can drain pretty fast if you have a few hills to climb... But the price/performance/enjoyment ratio favors electrifying your bike!
I love it! My swych kit has brought the “Wee!” back into bicycling. I installed it on my ZiZZO Urbana folding bike. Installation was a little confusing but with a few calls to my sister, who added one to her bike last year, I got it done. One small glitch, the battery bracket on the handlebars prevents folding the wheels closely together so the bike will no longer fit in its carrying bag. No worries though, ZiZZO + swytch = an electric bike that weighs about 30 lbs! Hurrah!
Really pleased with the latest Swytch kit installation on my Brompton. It took about 30mins to install, carefully, and has given me a much needed blast of power ever since. Loving it and an occasional 10mile ride I do on this folding bike has seen a reduction in journey time from 45 to 30minutes and I don't have to take a change of clothes anymore as I don't get hot and sweaty cycling anymore - what a transformation! A great minimalist kit, now the battery is so neat, that really suits the Brompton cycles, and the battery and charger even fits neatly in the Brompton front bag pockets when its all stowed-away - brilliant!
The Swytch kit is amazing! I don't even't think twice about my commute now because it is so enjoyable. The team are great - I had an accident which meant one of the parts got broken and they replaced quickly and at a discount. I would recommend paying a bike shop to fit it. I do wish the battery lasted a full hour of my commute (it is more like 45 mins) but appreciate this is probably because I bought the smallest battery.
Some parts were awkward to fit. My Brompton dates from 2001 so fitting the front wheel needed the torque washers modifying. End result though is excellent.
Customer service was good if a little slow.
Dahon Mariner Owner: I have the Swytch Max Kit and it works great for NYC riders! However, the Swytch mount on my handlebar is making my foldable bike unfoldable. I need the mount that goes to the seat saddle so I can fold my bike again. The Swytch website is not allowing me to purchase only the accessories, I have to purchase another Swytch kit so I can get access to the accessories. This issue needs to be fixed or easy and accessible for the current Swytch kit holders worldwide. Other than that it’s an awesome product!!
The perfect answer for my lightweight folding bike! I had struggled to make the hills before and thought I would only be using the bike around campgrounds and flat trails. Now I can ride all the bike paths I love. I am an 80+ year old woman and put the kit on all by myself! Getting the magnet disk on was a little tricky and I had to get a 2.5 MM hex end to remove the disk arm which I did not need. Other than being held up by that, the kit went on easily. Fun ride!
Overall, I am really pleased with my Brompton Pro Swytch kit. Like many there was a slight delay in delivery due to the surge in demand for ebikes but this wasn't an issue for me as I bought the kite to convert my work commute bike and due to the ongoing Covid situation, I am still not back in the office. The Brompton Pro kit initially suffered from some vibration issues, however they have managed to fix this with a software update to the controller. Drawing a line on all of that I now have a Brompton kit which I love. It allows me to do 20mile rides without turning up looking all hot a sweaty. It has also opened up certain routes which were to advanced/tough for me, i.e. really steep hills no longer a problem. Overall I would recommend. The initial supply and performance issues were all resolved and over time I am sure the company will iron out things like this. I am left with a product I really enjoy riding.

There was a long wait, bad luck to order during Covid19 outbreak, and their communication during this period was not good. When the kit arrived I was impressed and the installation was pretty easy and well explained. I unfortunately had one of the Pro packs with the judders. Customer service was responsive initially offering to send a complete new kit. Nothing arrived so on contacting them again I was informed that no not a new kit but a reprogrammed controller! Unfortunately this was also defective. Finally a 2nd reprogrammed controller arrived and it worked. 12months after the order I am now satisfied. Being in Australia meant long waits. The kit itself and its implementation is fantastic, so good that I have ordered second kit for my touring bike. I have learnt to be patient, Good things come to those who wait!
I received the Swytch conversion kit for my Brompton 6 months after ordering. This wasn’t a problems as I expected a long wait as that’s how their business model is set up. The kit was very well packaged and I found the fitting instructions very clear and so didn’t have a problem installing the conversion kit. Riding the converted Brompton is great. I have a throttle and tend to ride the bike with zero pedal assistance and then just use the throttle when necessary. I recommend Swytch.

I personally waited 8 months from ordering in march 2020 to delivery but in fairness this was in 2020 so they were many small delays that just added up. (this is the only reason i havent given 5 stars) From talking to others that ordered in October 2020 they have been receving theirs in around 3 months, so much has improved.
I would deffinately recomend this product. To go better you will pay a lot lot more.

After much research I ordered two Swytch kits (pro) for our two Bromptons. I ordered in March 2020 and the kits duly arrived in December 2020. Nine months, but to be fair COVID was right in the middle, which nocks three months off, and probably another month for getting back into operation again. All in all I was very happy with the time frame.
Being Brompton specific, the kits fitted very easily, even coming with Brompton specific PAS sensors, giving ample choice of which sensor fitted best. The fitting guides and videos were a great help. The hardest part for me was fitting the handlebar mount, as on Bromptons the cockpit is rather cramped, but it did finally fit. If you own a Brompton with sport (straight) handlebars, there will be no problem whatsoever.
I had an initial problem with some defective parts, but after a couple of emails and a zoom meeting with an engineer, the replacement parts were duly dispatched and arrived quickly. I found customer support to be good, all communication is by email. Not being able to phone is unusual, but thinking about it, it makes sense as everyone has copies of what was said and it allows Swytch’s representatives to operate efficiently. Warranty registration is straight forward and online.
The kits work really well, and are much more powerful than I imagined they would be. Simple to operate and do not seem to affect the handling of the bikes. There is on option for a Brompton mount that utilises the Brompton luggage mount, thus removing any weight from the handlebars. However for us this was not an option as we have Brompton bags that cannot be used if the mount is used for the battery.
Overall we are very happy with the kits, they blend well into the bike and most importantly, the bikes can be used as normal if the battery goes flat.
The biggest difference for myself is that my wife has changed from being a “I want to cycle somewhere flat” or “not that way, there’s a hill” to a “ooh look, there’s another hill, lets try that one!”, cyclist. Priceless!

I'm considering ordering another kit for my 1965 classic Moulton bicycle which would make an excellent town and shopping machine with its large luggage racks.
After a lengthy Covid-induced wait, got my Swytch conversion fitted to my Brompton in about an hour or so. The only bit that takes real care and improvisation as all bikes seem to differ is the fitting of the Power Assistance Sensor to the bike's pedal crank and the nearest bit of frame. The rest is more of a 'bolt it on and wire it together' affair. Even the connectors can't be mixed up. The only niggle I had was that with the battery box in place at handlebar level, my wireless speedo stopped working - OK it's only a Halfords basic job but I'm not alone and some other users have more exotic 'computers'. It now works fine down on the crossbar out of the line of fire of what I assume is radio interference. Riding an assisted bike for the first time makes you smile - you can't help it. It will only assist whilst you're pedalling so you can't cheat and use it like a moped - well not on the UK's roads you can't although other countries allow for a throttle to be fitted. You can here too as long as you stay off road, although this is not that likely with a Brompton! As you'll see from my MapMyRun stats below, it has helped me tackle a short and very steep 800' climb that I couldn't even complete on my mountain bike. I had to use level 5 on the power pack (it's the smaller Eco version) and used up 40% of the battery, but as you can imagine, I didn't use ANY on the way back! Glad I waited - you bet!
I ordered the Brompton kit in May this year, this to fit on my Dahon Boardwalk Folding Bike and despite the various problems caused by Covid 19 the kit arrived on the 9th October, Fitting did not take long and apart from fitting the front wheel the wrong way round initially, which was soon rectified, ( I had put the bike upside down to facilitate installation. ) Overall it took me about 2 hours to get everything sorted and ready for the test photos and video for the warranty.
Once completed I did a short test ride to check everything was working correctly and the put the battery onto charge again.
I have subsequently carried several minor modifications such as repositioning the pedal sensor, wrapping and rerouting cables.
My longest ride to date is only just over 10 miles and I returned with 2 bars left on my Eco battery, I expect I'll improve my mileage and battery life as I get fitter. As a septuagenarian, I doubt whether I'll achieve the fitness level of my youth but the Swytch Kit has got me out on my bike again and enjoying the ride.
Overall I'm very pleased with the kit, but in hindsight, I think I should have bought the Pro Battery
I own the original Brompton Swytch kit and now the Brompton Swytch Pro Kit. Their designers and engineers took feedback from the original kit to make refinements that made the new kit easier to install and more robust. For example the PAS disc clamps onto the pedal crank and the rest of the ring floats. The torque washer is thicker. The Brompton block allows you to place the battery where the brompton carrier block sits. The ride experience is customisable. I tuned it to give me a natural feel, the right amount of boost needed to keep up with London traffic or to overcome 45 degree hills in Hampstead Heath. My partner, who used to shy away from cycling, because of the mentioned barriers, now feels confident and asks me to go cycling with her. Their customer support has improved tremendously. You can book video calls to get help with installation and if there’s anything wrong they will send you new parts with express mail. I saw on their job board that they are hiring bike designers and customer support, 6 new hires total. This company is growing. I definitely prefer riding my Swytch Brompton as my main mode of transportation. It's fun and it cost a lot less than the official e-Brompton.
I ordered my Brompton Swytch Kit during the Indigogo crowdfunding campaign and was delighted to receive it in November 2020. Fitting the kit was easy and the installation instructions and videos were very clear and straightforward to understand. I've tried out the Swytch kit over the past few weeks and as I live in the hilly South Hams of Devon it had some rigorous testing. It proved to be as versatile as my full sized Shimano Steps crank engined bike, just as capable of aiding an overweight pensioner up very steep hills thanks to the motor and wonderful gearing of my Brompton. The motor and battery are so lightweight it is just as easy to cycle without power as it was before conversion. I was intending to swap out the motor wheel to the original wheel for unpowered cycling but it feels so light even with the motor wheel and battery attached that I'll not bother swapping the wheel in and out. The only thing I am still wishing for is a battery rental scheme for when we go to New Zealand on holiday so we can use our Swytch motors when we fly abroad on holiday. Great value for money and a worthwhile upgrade to my Brompton which will enable me to enjoy cycling for many years to come.

So good in fact I ordered two kits as we have two very old (1999) Brommies, that we wanted to electrify, so we could get rid of the really heavy electric folding bike my wife has been using, and have one for me. As I ordered early I knew there would be a long lead-time for the kits to arrive, and then Covid happened, hey ho. The first kit arrived recently and I had it fitted in no time, just had to swap the front wheel and tyre, fit the battery pack holder, and pedal sensor, although due to the very narrow space between my crank and bottom bracket I needed a quick call to Swytch Support to fit the sensor disk. Anyway, all fitted and cables tied in and its great! Hardly noticed the hills that used to slow me down. Need a few longer runs now, and the second kit should be arriving in a few days. Very happy!
